2003 Krewe Du Vieux Parade

The Krewe du Vieux is arguably one of Mardi Gras most infamous parades. This rag-tag group of locals endeavors each year to call attention to most of the local and international controversial issues that those involved would rather forget. Formed in 1987 from another parade group, the organization first marched in 1988 with its self-proclaimed, wild satirical Carnival parade, dedicated to the historical and traditional concept of a Mardi Gras parade as a venue for individual creative expression and satirical comment. It is unique among all Mardi Gras parades in carrying the tradition of using hand decorated and mule (or people)-drawn floats with satirical themes accompanied by costumed revelers dancing in the streets. With 17 sub-krewes with names such as "Seeds of Decline", L.E.W.D. (Lewd Ensemble of Weird Degenerates), K.A.O.S. (Kommittee for the Aggravation of Organized Society), T.O.K.I.N. (Totally Orgasmic Krewe of Intergalactic Ne'er-do-wells), each producing their own float and array of constumed intoxicants, the KDV is hardcare local Mardi Gras fans' favorite event of the season.
